Newburgh, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Soccer team dropped a 7-2 Skyline Conference decision on Wednesday night at Mount Saint Mary. Senior
Joseph Rosado (Highland Falls, N.Y.) scored both goals for the Mount, his first two tallies of the season.
Mount Saint Mary broke a scoreless tie on Wednesday with an Alex Tolman goal at the 15:29 mark of the match. The Knights went on to open a commanding 4-0 lead at the half when they erupted for three more goals inside the last 7:07 of the first half.
Brandon Mincher got the second goal for Mount Saint Mary in the 38
th minute, before Sean Barton and Sean Lockwood found the back of the net in the 39
th and 44
th minute, respectively.
The first half ended with Mount Saint Mary taking all 19 shots in the opening 45 minutes and four of the five corner kicks.
Rosado got the Dolphins on the board at the 53:55 mark of the match with his first goal of the season. He collected a turnover by the Knights a drove shot inside the far post from 25 yards out.
Lockwood answered the Mount Saint Vincent goal just 35 seconds later to give the Knights back a four goal lead, before Rosado struck again off a pass from
Matthew Samaan (Manalapan, N.J.) in the 61
st minute.
Lockwood would add his third goal of the game in the 72
nd minute and closed the game with seven points. Overall, the Knights had four players score a goal and have an assist, with Ryan Folken assisting on two goals.
Samaan's assist gives him 10 points on the season and ties him for the team lead with classmate
Tajay Simon (Mount Vernon, N.Y.). Rosado's scoring output gives him career-highs in goals with two and points with seven.
For the night, Mount Saint Mary held a 31-3 advantage in shots and a 6-1 edge in corner kicks. Rosdao led the Dolphins with two shots and
William Gutelius (Port Chester, N.Y.) added the other shot for the Mount.
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 2-3-1 overall on the season and to 0-2 against Skyline Conference opponents. The Dolphins return to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Farmingdale St. Opening kick-off is set for 12:00 p.m.
