Troy, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Lacrosse team snapped a four game losing streak on Saturday with an impressive 17-4 road win at league rival Sage. Junior midfielder
Nicole Flores (Bethpage, N.Y.) led six players with at least two points in the game with four to go along with seven draw controls.
The Dolphins got the scoring started early in the contest and used markers from
Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.),
Diana Lawless (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and
Samantha Ramsden (Warren, R.I.) to open a 3-0 lead inside the first 10 minutes of play.
The Mount would add eight more goals before halftime to take a commanding 11-0 lead into the intermission.
Julia Caro (Mamaroneck, N.Y.), Fraser and Lawless all netted a pair of goals before the half as the Dolphins posted an 18-6 edge in shots in the first 30 minutes.
Elizabeth Delaney (Warwick, N.Y.) and
Melina Mezzanotte (Shirley, N.Y.) pushed the Mount's lead to 13-0 coming out of halftime before Sage finally got on the board with just over 20 minutes to play in the contest. The Mount Saint Vincent defense would not allow back-to-back goals on the day as it cruised to its second win of the season.
Flores paced the offensive attack with a goal and three assists and leads the team in scoring on the season with 18 points. She also bumped her team leading total in draw controls to 22 in the game and rounded out a strong effort against the Gators with three groundballs and three caused turnovers.
Caro, Lawless, Fraser, Mezzanotte and
Laura Carr (Franklin Square, N.Y.) all rounded out the day with a pair of goals, with Delaney handing out a pair of assists. Caro and Fraser also finished the day with a helper for the Dolphins.
Colleen Walsh (Manchester, Vt.) matched the team-high with three groundballs, while Carr and Delaney each won a pair of draw controls. Fraser rounded out a strong all-around day with three caused turnovers.
Michelle Miller (Chester, Pa.) got the call in goal for the Dolphins on Saturday and made three stops in 44 minutes of work to earn the win. Mary Kay Hayward suffered the loss for the Gators after making six saves.
The Dolphins dominated the team statistics on Saturday, outshooting Sage 27-14 and also holding the advantage in groundballs 17-11. The Mount was also efficient in clears and finished the day 11-for-13.
The win improves Mount Saint Vincent's overall record to 2-4 and its Skyline mark to 1-1. The Dolphins will look for two straight in the win column on Wednesday when they play host to Kean. Opening Draw at TIbbetts Brook Park is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
