Farmingdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team dropped its fourth consecutive game overall and its fifth straight league contest on Saturday after a 72-46 loss at Farmingdale St.
Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) and
Andrea Sinaly (Middle Village, N.Y.) paced the Dolphins with 10 points each.
The game featured a pair of ties and seven lead changes in the early going before the Rams used a 27-7 run over a nine minute stretch to pull in front for good by a score of 38-18.
The lead would balloon to a half-high 25 points after a Nora Connelly jumper with 1:37 to play in the half. Keyed by 6-for-10 shooting from three-point range in the opening 20 minutes, the Rams shot 50-percent from the floor overall and were led by 12 points from Jeanette Zubizaretta.
Mount Saint Vincent would not be able to get its deficit under 18 points in the second half with
Kayla Giordano (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) getting the Dolphins to within 62-44 after a three-pointer with 7:02 to play in regulation. The Mount would fall behind by as many as 28 in the second half after Christina Merrill buried a three-pointer three minutes into the frame.
Mount Saint Vincent finished the game shooting 38.9-percent from the floor overall but went 2-for-10 from behind the arc and converted just half of its four free-throws.
Desiree Rosa (Dumont, N.J.) canned the second triple for the Dolphins.
Fraser finished the game shooting 5-for-10 from the field for the Mount and has now scored in double-figures in four straight games. She also hauled in nine rebounds and blocked four shots in 29 minutes of work.
Sinaly rounded out the day going 5-for-11 from the floor and also secured a pair of rebounds and handed out an assist.
Kara McNish added seven points and led the team on the day with 10 rebounds.
Farmingdale St. finished the afternoon shooting just over 43-percent overall and went 9-for-18 from behind the arc. Zubizaretta led the way with 18 points after knocking down five triples for the Rams. Connolly added 10 points for Farmingdale St. and added four assists.
Mount Saint Vincent turned the ball over 37 times on Saturday which led to 44 Farmingdale State points. The Dolphins were also outscored on the day 14-0 on the fastbreak.
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 5-15 overall on the season and to 1-9 against Skyline Conference opponents. The Dolphins will look to rebound at home on Tuesday when they play host to preseason favorite Mount Saint Mary. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
