Sophomore leads all players in scoring, collects 13 rebounds

New York, N.Y. – College of Mount Saint Vincent sophomore Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) continued her strong campaign with a career-high 25 points, but the Dolphins dropped their third game in four outings after a 71-56 non-conference loss at John Jay.
 
The Bloodhounds led from wire-to-wire in the game and built an 11 point advantage after a Danielle Eagan triple with 13:28 left before halftime. The Dolphins would rally to get their deficit to four points after seven straight tallies from Shannon Koch (Kings Park, N.Y.), but could not pull even.
 
John Jay got its advantage back to nine points after another Eagan three with 4:29 left in the opening period, before the Mount sliced the deficit to two points following 7-0 spurt. Desiree Rosa (Dumont, N.J.) capped the run with a three-point field goal with 36 seconds on the clock.
 
Simone Victor answered with back-to-back conversions, including a basket off a turnover at the horn to send the Bloodhounds to the locker room with a 32-26 lead.
 
Mount Saint Vincent shot 28.6-percent overall in the first 20 minutes against a 36.1-percent clip from John Jay. The Bloodhounds also knocked in four triples in the half and had eight different players score. Koch led the Dolphins with 10 points at the break on 3-for-6 shooting.
 
The Dolphins scored the first five points of the second half on a Fraser lay-in and a three from Tanisha Montague (Brooklyn, N.Y.) to get the disadvantage down to one point, before the Bloodhounds went on a quick 5-0 run to expand its lead back to six points.
 
Mount Saint Vincent would not get closer then four points the remainder of the night and saw its deficit grow to double-figures on a Jamecia Forsythe bucket with just over 12 minutes left to play.
 
Fraser scored 18 of her game-high 25 points in the second half and recorded her second double-double of the season with a team-high 13 rebounds. She finished the night 11-for-25 from the floor and blocked a career-high eight shots. She rounded out an impressive night with three assists and a pair of steals.
 
Koch closed the night scoring 10 points, all in the first half, with Montague adding eight. Montague handed out a game and career-high eight assists, while Rosa swiped five steals for the Mount.
 
Victor led the Bloodhounds with 24 points on 10-for-19 shooting, with Forsythe and Eagan adding 13 and 12 respectively. Forsythe collected a game-high 16 rebounds and led the team with five assists.
 
Mount Saint Vincent closed the contest shooting 31.3-percent from the floor and went 3-for-14 from behind the arc. John Jay shot just shy of 40-percent overall but canned eight triples, shooting 47.1-percent from distance.
 
The Bloodhounds held a 57-38 advantage on the glass on Wednesday, including a 21-12 edge on the offensive end. John Jay finished with a 19-10 advantage in second chance points and a 32-4 edge in bench scoring.
 
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 2-4 overall on the season. Next up for the Dolphins is a trip to Yeshiva on Sunday afternoon. Tip-off with the Maccabees is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
