Robinson’s Buzzer Beater Pushes Mount Saint Vincent Past New Rochelle, 66-64

New Rochelle, N.Y. – College of Mount Saint Vincent sophomore Shanice Robinson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) converted a jumper at the horn to give the Dolphins a thrilling 66-64 road win at the College of New Rochelle on Thursday night. Robinson finished the game with nine points in the victory.
 
Mount Saint Vincent did not trail before halftime on Thursday after scoring the first five points on a triple from Desiree Rosa (Dumont, N.J.) and a bucket from Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) inside the first two minutes of the contest.
 
The Dolphins would allow the Blue Angels to within one point following a Jasmine Brandon jumper with 16:51 left in the half, but responded with 14 of the next 21 points to take their largest lead of the half, eight points, with 11:38 on the clock.
 
New Rochelle would battle back again with an 8-4 stretch to cut its deficit to a pair of points with just under four minutes remaining in the opening period. The Mount, though, would get six straight points over a nearly three minute span to regain an eight point lead before eventually heading to the break with a 33-28 advantage.
 
The Dolphins converted 39.4-percent of their field goal chances before the half and were led by seven points from Tanisha Montague (Brooklyn, N.Y.). The Blue Angels shot just under 43-percent in the opening stanza but were held to 1-for-8 shooting from behind the arc.
 
Fraser opened the second half for the Dolphins with six of the first eight points to give the Mount a nine point advantage with 18:32 to play in regulation. The Dolphins would maintain the lead until a 16-6 run from the Blue Angels saw them take their first lead of the night with 12:41 to play. Alyssa Pechin drained a three-pointer to cap the run and push New Rochelle in front 46-45.
 
The advantage would last 11 seconds as the Dolphins quickly regained the lead on a Sinead Gooney (Bronx, N.Y.) conversion in the paint. The Dolphins would not be able to expand their lead past three points and saw New Rochelle jump back in front on a Ja'Nasha King jumper with 8:16 to left in the second half.
 
The lead would change hands twice quickly after the King conversion with Robinson pushing the Dolphins back in front with a three-pointer. The Mount would expand its lead to five points on an Andrea Sinaly (Middle Village, N.Y.) bucket, but saw New Rochelle rip off the next five points, including a three-point play from Holly Cammarota, to tie the score at 62-62 with 59 seconds to play.
 
Rosa got the Dolphins back in front with a pair of free-throws, but the game was then tied for the second time on a Brandon lay-in with 38 ticks remaining.
 
New Rochelle had possession in the final 10 seconds, but a key steal from Rosa set up the final play. Out of a timeout Robinson converted the team's 32nd paint point to send it to the victory.
 
Robinson finished the night with a career-high nine points to go along with three rebounds and a pair of steals. She shot 3-for-6 from the field, 1-for-1 from distance and was a perfect 2-for-2 from the free-throw line in the win.
 
Fraser led the Dolphins on the night with 12 points and also totaled a pair of assists and a career-high four steals. Sinaly rounded out the night with a season-high 10 points and matched the game-high with five assists.
 
For the night, Mount Saint Vincent shot 40.9-percent from the field and went 4-for-11 from distance. Rosa converted half of the team's makes from distance on her way to eight points and also contributed four steals, including the one that set up the game winner.
 
New Rochelle had three players in double-figures with Pechin leading the way with 15 points. King posted a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, with Brandon chipping in with 12 tallies.
 
The Blue Angles finished off the night shooting 41.7-percent overall, but went just 3-for-13 from behind the arc. New Rochelle also turned the ball over 37 times leading to 32 Mount Saint Vincent point.
 
Thursday's win sends Mount Saint Vincent into the semester break at .500 overall with a 4-4 record. The Dolphins will be off until January 3 when they welcome Rutgers-Camden to Riverdale. Tip-off for the non-conference game is set for 7:00 p.m.
