Newburgh, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team was defeated on Thursday night on the road at Skyline Conference favorite Mount Saint Mary by a score of 66-44. Sophomore
Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished the game with 18 points for the Dolphins.
The lead changed just twice on Thursday, once when the Knights took a 2-0 lead in the opening minute on a Lauren Ramao bucket and then a minute later when Fraser connected on her first triple of the season to give the Dolphins a 3-2 lead with 18:05 to play before halftime.
The Knights quickly got back in front on a three-pointer from Amanda Smith to take a lead they would not give back the rest of the night. Mount Saint Vincent would stay within four points until an 11-3 Mount Saint Mary run over nearly seven minutes pushed it in front 21-10 with just over five minutes to play in the first half.
The Dolphins would not get any closer then seven points the remainder of the period and went to the locker room trailing 28-18 after shooting 5-for-22 from the floor in the frame. Fraser led the Mount with six points at the break.
Mount Saint Mary would maintain a double-figure advantage throughout the second half on Thursday and did not allow the Dolphins any closer then 12 points in the second stanza. The Knight lead grew to 21 on a pair of free-throws from Natalie Candarelli with 7:46 left to play and to a game-high 26 on a Taylor Lombardo triple in the final minute.
Fraser finished the night with 12 of her 18 points after halftime and closed the game shooting 6-for-16 from the floor. She also converted five of her seven chances at the free-throw line, grabbed six rebounds and recorded a blocked shot.
Junior
Tanisha Montague (Brooklyn, N.Y.) rounded out the game with eight points and knocked down two of the team's three triples. She also matched the team-high with two assists to go along with a pair of steals.
Andrea Sinaly (Middle Village, N.Y.) matched the team-high with six rebounds and also collected four steals.
The Knights placed three players in double-figures led by a game-high 23 points from Rachel Perrone on 10-for-13 shooting. Smith handed out six assists to go along with 11 points, while Becky Metzger matched Sinaly with a game-high four steals.
For the game, Mount Saint Vincent shot just over 29-percent from the floor and went 3-for-11 from distance. It's the second time this season the Dolphins have shot under 30-percent from the floor.
Mount Saint Mary closed the game shooting 45.5-percent as a team and forced 28 Mount Saint Vincent turnovers. The Dolphins turned the Knights over 23 times, however Mount Saint Mary held a 22-11 advantage in points off of miscues.
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 2-3 overall on the season and to 0-2 against Skyline Conference opponents. The Dolphins will continue a four game road swing on December 5 when they travel to John Jay. Tip-off with the Bloodhounds is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
