McNish matches career-high; records fourth straight double-double

Riverdale, N.Y. – Senior Kara McNish (Hawthorne, N.J.) matched her career-high with 19 points and recorded her fourth straight double-double with 17 rebounds, but the College of Mount Saint Vincent dropped a non-conference decision to Rowan on Monday night by a score of 75-51.
 
The first half featured a series of runs from each side and saw Rowan jump in front by 10 points at the 6:17 mark of the stanza after a Ashley Waring three-pointer. Trailing 23-13, the Mount ran off a 10-0 spurt of its own capped by a Shannon Koch (Kings Park, N.Y.) triple to knot the score at 23-23 with just under three minutes to play before the half.
 
Following the Koch triple, the Profs again sprinted out to a six point lead on two occasions in the final 1:19 of the period. A 6-0 run keyed by a Kelly Schullstrom triple pushed the visitors in front 29-23, before the two teams traded buckets in the final 43 seconds, with Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) beating the horn for the Dolphins to their deficit to 31-27 heading into halftime.
 
Both team struggled from the floor in the first half, with the Dolphins shooting just 28.9-percent from the floor and 12.5-percent from behind the4 three-point line. The Profs shot 35.3-percent as a unit, but converted on 57.1-percent of their three-point chances to secure the halftime lead.
 
Coming out of halftime, Mount Saint Vincent sustained a four-and-a-half minute scoring drought and found itself trailing 41-27 after a Lauren Gregg lay-in with 15:21 left in the second frame.
 
Rowan would expand their lead to 16 points after an Alissa Lamey three-point play with 9:43 left before the Mount put together one final run. Trailing 53-37, the Dolphins ran off seven straight points to get the disadvantage under double-figures for the final time of the night at 53-44 with 7:42 showing on the clock.
 
After the Dolphins final run, Rowan ripped off a 17-4 stretch to open a 22 point lead with 2:58 to play and expanded their lead to a game-high 25 points after a Jade Bonder bucket with 16 ticks remaining.
 
The Profs dominated the second half on Thursday, outscoring the Mount 44-24 after shooting an even 50-percent overall in the period and just under 43-percent from behind the arc.
 
Rowan featured a balanced scoring attack that saw Gregg lead four in double-figures with a team-high 17 points. She rounded out a double-double effort with 12 rebounds to go along with six assists. Lamey also had a strong night after finishing with 11 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.
 
For the game, the Profs shot 42.-percent from the floor overall and 50-percent from behind the arc. Rowan also dominated the paint 30-16 and the transition game, outscoring the Mount on the fast break 23-0.
 
McNish paced the Dolphins after going 6-for-9 from the floor and 7-for-10 from the free-throw line on her way to matching her career-high. She led all players with 17 rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass, and also handed out two assists and blocked a pair of shots.
 
Koch scored in double-figures for the second time this season, netting 10 points and securing a pair of rebounds. Sarah Kluth (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and Andrea Sinaly (Middle Village, N.Y.) each led the team with three assists.
 
Overall, Mount Saint Vincent shot 25.7-percent from the floor and went just 2-for-13 from behind the arc. The Dolphins did outrebound the Profs 54-48, including 23-14 on the offensive side, which led to an18-8 edge in second chance points.
 
The loss is Mount Saint Vincent's third straight and drops it to 4-11 overall on the season. The Dolphins will look to rebound on Thursday when they play host to Yeshiva. Tip-off at the Sharp Center is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
