Final Stats

Bronx, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Soccer team fell on the road Thursday night at Lehman by a score of 4-0. The Dolphins and Lightning played a scoreless first half before Lehman exploded for four tallies in the second period. Senior goalie Matt Calandrillo (Cold Spring, N.Y.) made eight saves on the night for the Dolphins.

Lehman outshot Mount Saint Vincent 9-4 in the opening 45 minutes, but could not solve Calandrillo. The senior, in his second career game for the Dolphins, turned away a pair of shots in the first period as the teams entered the intermission 0-0.

Lehman would get on the board with the eventual game winner in the 58th minute when Guihounou Guede tallied an unassisted goal at the 57:33 mark of the match. The Guede goal was the first of three for the Lightning in just under 10 minutes as it turned a scoreless contest into a 3-0 advantage.

Oumar Niang curled a ball into the cage off a corner kick for Lehman at the 59:32 mark and Guede got his second of the night to close out the impressive 10 minute stretch off a feed from Assami Valian at 66:53. Valian went on to close out the scoring in the 85th minute for the Lightning.

Calandrillo finished off the night with his eight stops, including six after halftime. Lehman used a pair of netminders on the night, with Marcos Coto-Batres seeing the bulk of the time and making one save.

"When Lehman did threaten, Matt Calandrillo made some great saves in the net - making it possible for us to shut down the Lightning collectively in the first half. We as a team were very compact, organized and led by our three Captains: Dan Cohen, Hugo Hernandez and Javier Mandujano. We came close to stealing the match then the score would indicate," said head coach Gianni Grimaldi.

Grimaldi continued, "The tables were turned in the second half, when we had lost one of our leaders on the field when Hernandez, our 'Man of the Match' versus CCNY,  severely turned on ankle on a slick field. Not having enough depth, or enough fitness, we faded in the 2nd half away from home. That said, I applauded all of my players at the end of the Lehman match, for having left everything on the field, and having conducted themselves with Class."

For the night, Lehman held a commanding advantage in shots at 28-8, including a 12-1 edge in shots on goal. Javier Mandujano (Norwalk, Conn.) recorded a tame-high four shots for the Mount, including the lone shot on goal.

Lehman (1-1) also took eight of the nine corner kicks in the match, while fouls were whistled 12-6 against the Dolphins.

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 0-2 overall on the season. The Dolphins will look to get into the win column on Saturday, September 17 when they travel to the University of Scranton. Kick-off with the Royals is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
