Dolphins Fall To Montclair St., Drop Fourth Straight League Contest

Flores scores three times, Miller makes 10 saves

Riverdale, N.Y.The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Lacrosse team had its Skyline Conference losing streak reach four games on Saturday after a 20-9 loss to league frontrunner Montclair St. Sophomore Nicole Flores (Bethpage, N.Y.) scored three times for the Mount to lead the offensive attack.

The game was tightly contested over the first 10 minutes on Saturday, with Mount Saint Vincent holding leads of 1-0 and 2-1. After the Red Hawks cashed in back-to-back goals to take a 3-2 lead, Flores netted her second of the game to knot the score with 22:22 left before halftime

Following the Flores tally, Montclair St. ripped off three straight to take a 6-3 lead and then used runs of five goals and four goals in the later stages of the half to build its advantage to 15-5 after 30 minutes of play.

Lauren Perla (Holbrook, N.Y.) opened the scoring in the second half to get the Mount to within 15-6, but the Red Hawks scored five of the nine goals in the period to cruise to the final 11 goal advantage. Meghan Spitzer tallied twice in the stanza for the Red Hawks.

 

Overall, Montclair St. had eight different players score a goal with Kayla Henderson leading the way with five markers. Kailee Beal finished with six points on four goals and a pair of assists, while Spitzer and Cora Delfini scored three times apiece.

 

Flores continued her steady season with team-highs in goals with three and draw controls with four. She also picked up four groundballs on the day for the Dolphins. Jessie Mitchell (Suffern, N.Y.) scored a pair of goals and led the team with five groundballs.

 

Perla finished the afternoon with one goal, a pair of groundballs and a draw control for the Dolphins. Julia Caro (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) added a goal and Kristen LeGeyt (Stony Point, N.Y.) scored twice off the bench.

 

Tiffani Henderson picked up the win in goal for the Red Hawks after making seven saves and picking up three groundballs. Michelle Miller (Chester, Pa.) made 10 stops for the Dolphins and also secured a groundball.

 

Montclair St. held the edge in shots on Saturday 38-24 and in groundballs 20-17. The Red Hawks also dominated in draw controls in the game, winning 23 of the 31 taken. Beal led the way with eight for Montclair St.

 

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 5-7 overall on the season and to 3-4 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will round out the league schedule on Monday night when they play host to Bard. Opening Draw at Tibbetts Brook Park is set for 8:00 p.m.
