Five different players scored at least three goals and five different players recorded at least four points as the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Lacrosse team soared past Maritime 20-6 on Wednesday. Kristen LeGeyt (Stony Point, N.Y.) led the offensive onslaught with seven points, while Jessie Mitchell (Suffern, N.Y.) added five points and 12 draw controls.

 

Mount Saint Vincent never trailed in the game and jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after a pair of LeGeyt tallies in the first six minutes of the contest. After Maritime sliced its deficit in half, the Dolphins scored five of the next six goals to open a 7-2 lead with 12:57 left before halftime.

 

The Dolphins carried a 13-4 lead into the intermission after scoring the last three goals of the first half. Mount Saint Vincent dominated the first 30 minutes, outshooting Maritime 28-5 and winning 16 of the 18 draw controls.

 

Mount Saint Vincent continued its dominance in the second half, outscoring the Privateers 7-2. After the Privateers scored two of the first three goals of the stanza, the Dolphins closed the game with six straight goals, including three from Nicole Flores (Bethpage, N.Y.).

 

LeGeyt finished the day with four goals and three assists to lead the Dolphins and also contributed two groundballs and three draw controls to the winning effort. Mitchell tallied four times and added a helper. She closed out a strong game with 10 groundballs, 12 draw controls and six caused turnovers.

 

Flores led the Mount in goals on the day with five and also picked up three groundballs and won three draw controls. Lauren Perla (Holbrook, N.Y.) tallied four times on the day and Julia Caro (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) scored three times. Two of Perla's four scores came on free-position shots as she went 2-for-3 in those opportunities in the game.

 

Michelle Miller (Chester, Pa.) picked up the win in goal for the Mount after making four saves. Courtney Marietta made 14 stops for the Privateers and picked up three groundballs.

 

Overall, Mount Saint Vincent outshot Maritime 45-11 and also held the edge in groundballs 29-19. The Dolphins dominated the draw control category on Wednesday, winning 23 of the 28 in the game and also went a perfect 7-for-7 in clearing attempts.

 

The win pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 2-2 overall on the season and to 2-0 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will look to make in three straight on Saturday when they host league foe Sage. Opening draw at Riverdale Country Day School is slated for 2:30 p.m.
