Yonkers, N.Y. – In a hard fought and tightly contested non-conference matchup, the College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Soccer squad was dealt a tough 2-1 loss by visiting John Jay on Monday afternoon. Junior
Joseph Rosado (Highland Falls, N.Y.) ended a seven game scoring drought for the Mount with his first career goal in the first half.
Rosado got the Mount on the board and gave the team its first lead since a 4-0 win at Yeshiva on September 25 in the 25
th minute on Monday.
Andres Romero (Port Chester, N.Y.) started the play after John Jay was whistled for a foul near midfield. Rosado headed his feed into the far corner of the goal for an early 1-0 advantage.
The Mount Saint Vincent goal was the first for the team since Romero tallied in the 86
th minute in the victory over Yeshiva. The scoreless drought lasted 760 minutes before Rosado's marker against the Bloodhounds.
The lead would last for nearly eight minutes on Monday until John Jay struck with the equalizer in the 33
rd minute of play. Rashid Allah Morad chipped a ball towards the right wing to Korede Griffith who finished off the pass at the 32:33 mark to knot the score at 1-1 heading into halftime.
Mount Saint Vincent and John Jay would remain tied at a goal apiece until the middle stages of the second half. After some sustained pressure in the Dolphins' end, the Bloodhounds finally broke the tie in the 79
th minute.
After Kareem Roberts rang a shot of the right post following a corner kick, Enrique Alvarez was there to bury the rebound under the bar for the eventual game winning tally at the 78:12 mark of the contest.
Senior netminder
Matt Calandrillo (Cold Spring, N.Y.) played a strong game between the pipes for the Dolphins and made eight saves. Nicholas Todaro earned the win for John Jay after making three stops.
Although slipping past the Dolphins, John Jay held a large advantage in shots in the contest at 25-8, including 14-4 after halftime.
Javier Mandujano (Norwalk, Conn.) paced the Dolphins with three shots in the tilt. The Bloodhounds took nine of the 10 corner kicks in the match and fouls on Monday were called 18-10 against the Mount.
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 1-11 overall, including the forfeit decision on Thursday at Maritime. The Dolphins will look to close the season with a victory on Wednesday when they play host to Sarah Lawrence. Kick-off at Tibbetts Brook Park is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
