Throggs Neck, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team split a pair of Skyline
Conference matches on Saturday afternoon at Maritime. The Dolphins swept the host Privateers by set scores of 25-9, 25-10 and 25-12, but fell to NYU-POLY 3-0 by set scores of 10-25, 11-25 and 12-25. Sophomore
Renee Reynes (Bronx, N.Y.) posted a match-high 11 digs against Maritime.
In the match with the Privateers Reynes added a kill, an assist and a service ace in the winning effort. Senior Lisa O'Shea (White Plains, N.Y.) led the way in the kill category with eight for the Dolphins. She also finished the match with three digs against Maritime.
Junior Irma Nepomuceno (Bronx, N.Y.) finished the contest with four kills for the Mount and also chipped in with a pair of service aces and four digs. Jessica Williams (Cornwall, N.Y.) and Bridget Leonard (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) each added three kills in the contest. Williams added three aces in the match, while Leonard handed out 13 assists and lifted three digs.
Mount Saint Vincent registered 26 kills to six for Maritime in the match and hit an impressive .320 overall. The Dolphins also lifted 32 digs to 14 for Maritime and Leonard and Tara Mead (Pearl River, N.Y.) each posted a block assist for the Mount's single total team block.
Against NYU-POLY in the second match of the day, the Dolphins were led by Maureen Metzner (Mineola, N.Y.) and Nepomuceno with four kills each. Nepomuceno also lifted 11 digs for the Dolphins and was one of three players with double-figure digs. She was joined by Leonard and Reynes who finished with 11 and 19, respectively.
Leonard also chipped in with three kills for the Dolphins and handed out 12 assists to go along with a service ace. Metzner also chipped in with an ace and five digs for Mount Saint Vincent.
For the match the Dolphins hit just .011 and managed only 17 kills against the Blue Jays, who are perfect in Skyline Conference play. Mount Saint Vincent also finished with three service aces, 59 digs and one total team block.
The split on Saturday moves Mount Saint Vincent's overall record to 12-11 and its Skyline Conference mark to 4-4. The Dolphins will close out the league portion of the schedule on Sunday afternoon with a match at Sage. The contest with the Gators is set for 1:00 p.m.
