losing streak and moved its record to 3-0 at home with a sweep of the College of New Rochelle on Tuesday night. The Dolphins took the match by scores of 25-11, 25-21 and 25-20.
Esmeralda Morales (Bronx, N.Y.) finished with five of the Mount's 17 service aces in the contest.
Thursday marked the third time this season that the Dolphins have recorded double digit service aces in a match. Against the Blue Angels, seven Mount Saint Vincent players recorded at least one ace and four players posted multiple aces. Morales led the charge with five and Lisa O'Shea (White Plains, N.Y.) added four in the contest. Sophomore Jessica Williams (Cornwall, N.Y.) posted three on Tuesday and Irma Nepomuceno (Bronx, N.Y.) was the fourth with multiple aces with a pair. Overall on the season the Mount is averaging 3.45 service aces set and 10.86 per match.
Nepomuceno also tied for the team lead on Tuesday in kills with four. She was one of three Mount Saint Vincent players with four kills as she was joined by Kristine DeMasi (Bay Ridge, N.Y.) and Williams.
Bridget Leonard (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) led the Dolphins with 14 assists against New Rochelle and also chipped in with a kill, an ace and four digs. Caryl Garcia (Yonkers, N.Y.) also posted four digs in the winning effort. Freshman Gabriella Burgos (Bronx, N.Y.) also chipped in on defensive with her first career solo block.
Elizabeth Johnston paced New Rochelle with five kills in the contest and Zena Jamal led all players with 10 defensive digs. Valencia Andrews picked up a solo block and a pair of kills for the Blue Angels.
Overall in the match, Mount Saint Vincent hit just .047 on 19 kills in 64 total attacks. New Rochelle lifted 28 digs to 23 for the Mount.
The win moves Mount Saint Vincent to 3-4 overall on the season. The Dolphins will look to remain perfect at home on Thursday night when they host cross town rival Lehman. The match with the Lightning is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Hayes Gymnasium.
