Mount Saint Vincent ties Farmingdale State 2-2 in Men’s Soccer

Frederic scores in first game back from injury; MacDonald nets third goal of 2005

Farmingdale, NY) – For the second consecutive game, the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Soccer team went to overtime during a Skyline Conference away game, and for the second consecutive game, the Dolphins came home minus the result they had hoped for. Marcus Frederic (Queens, NY/Holy Cross HS) scored in the seventh minute during his first game back from an ankle injury, and Chris MacDonald (Farmingdale, NY/Nassau CC) tallied his team-leading third goal of the season, but the effort resulted in a 2-2 tie with the Rams that dealt a serious blow to any Skyline Conference playoff aspirations for the Dolphins.

Mount Saint Vincent is now 3-5-1 overall, and 1-4-1 in the Skyline Conference with only three Conference games remaining, all but meaning that the Mount will have to go undefeated the rest of the way in-conference to reach the post-season.

Frederic opened the scoring with his first goal of the 2005 season after missing nearly four games with an ankle injury suffered during the opening minutes of Mount Saint Vincent's 2-0 win over Yeshiva on Sept. 22. After a Farmingdale State foul, Chris Herrera (Queens, NY/St. Francis Prep) started the ball and passed to Frederic, who drilled a shot to the back of the net for the Dolphin lead. Farmingdale State tied the score late in the first half and the teams remained tied through halftime.

10 minutes into the second half, MacDonald put the Mount ahead, scoring a gorgeous breakaway goal. However, the lead only stood for 20 minutes as the Rams tied the score with less than 14 minutes remaining in regulation.

The two extra sessions were actually dominated by Farmingdale State, who out-shot the Mount 12-0 during the double-overtime periods, but they were unable to convert any of their opportunities. Overall, Farmingdale took 28 shots and 12 corner kicks, while Mount Saint Vincent took 12 shots and zero corner kicks.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 8 when they open their Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference (HVMAC) schedule against the Culinary Institute of America. Time and location of the contest will be determined later this week.
