(Queens, NY) – After being held nearly 300 minutes without a goal, the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Soccer team seems to have found its scoring touch as the Dolphins downed CUNY power Hunter College on Saturday, 3-2. The Mount defeated Yeshiva University, 2-0 on Thursday by scoring twice during the final five minutes of play to break their scoring drought. With three goals on Saturday, the Dolphins have now scored five times in a 95-minute span.
Things looked down for the Mount for a time on Saturday as Hunter jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 19 minute mark off a 10-yard shot from freshman Nico Sowinangoen (Queens/Jamaica HS). However, Mount Saint Vincent scored the next two goals at the 21st and 25th minute by sophomores
Chris MacDonald (Farmingdale, NY/Nassau CC) and Eric DiFulvio (Queens, NY/Holy Cross HS), respectively, to take the 2-1 lead.
Hunter held tough and returned the favor tying the game up at the 31st minute off a short
goal from freshman Aykut Can (Brooklyn/Fort Hamilton HS), assisted by sophomore Chinoy
Edwards (Brooklyn/Erasmus Hall).
MacDonald scored his second goal of the day for the Dolphins with a header off of a pass from junior Zack Deneen (North Haven, CT/North Haven HS), at the 38th minute to seal the victory for the Mount (3-3).
Hunter recorded 13 shots on goal while the Dolphins took 12 shots on net. Mount goalie
Nicholas Sens-Castet (Booklyn, NY/St. John's Prep) had seven saves in the victory while Hawk goalie Nisim Sachokov also finished with seven saves.
Next up for Mount Saint Vincent is a Thursday clash at Skyline Conference rival, Manhattanville. The game begins at 4:00 p.m.
