Martin’s five goals leads Mount Saint Vincent to first win of the season

team won at Manhattanville 16-8 for its first win of the season. Martin would finish the contest with eight points, as she would also record three assists.

Mount Saint Vincent would jump out to a 7-0 lead with 15:40 left in the first half. Martin would scored four of her five goals in that span, while Adams scored the first goal just 1:16 into the contest. Following Martin's fourth goal, which put the Mount out to the seven goal advantage, Manhattanville would strike twice to pull within five with just under four minutes remaining in the period. Kristen LeGeyt (Stony Point, NY) would score with 1:14 remaining in the period to give the Dolphins an 8-2 lead at the half.

The Dolphins would open the second half much the same way they opened the first, as they would record the first four tallies of the second frame to take a commanding 12-2 lead with 21:05 left in regulation time. Adams would score three of her four in the second half, while Katie Tucci (Baldwinsville, NY) and Lauren Perla (Holbrook, NY) each found the back of the net twice in the final period.

Mount Saint Vincent would have seven players record a goal in the contest and recorded six assists in the game. Rounding out the scoring column for the Dolphins on Tuesday were Erin Woerner (Kings Park, NY) and Stacie Tripp (Glen Cove, NY). Martin led the team with three assists on the night, while LeGeyt, Jessie Mitchell (Suffern, NY) and Katie Zimmermann (Kings Park, NY) each recorded a helper.

Mitchell, Alexis Alessi (Rockville Centre, NY) and Woerner each led the team with three draw controls each in the game, while Alessi would also record a team-high four groundballs. Senior Cynthia Osorio (Oceanside, NY) posted three of the team's six caused turnovers on Tuesday.

Jackie Horn (Setauket, NY) played the full 60:00 in the cage for the Mount, picking up her first win of the season. She made 11 saves in the contest, including eight in the first half. Horn also scooped three groundballs in the winning effort.

For the game, the Dolphins held the edge in shots 35-28 and in draw controls 16-10. Manhattanville held a 21-15 edge in groundballs and turnovers in the tilt went 27-22 against Mount Saint Vincent. Each team converted four free position shots on Tuesday, with the Dolphins going 4-9 on those opportunities.

The win moves Mount Saint Vincent to 1-2 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Saturday, when they travel to Wellesley. Face-off for the road contest is set for 3:00 p.m.
