After falling behind 5-4 with 12:25 left in the first half, Mount Saint Vincent rallied to score five of the final six goals in the period to carry a 9-6 advantage into halftime. Over that stretch the Mount tallied four straight times, including man up goals from Jessie Mitchell (Suffern, N.Y.) and Lauren Perla (Holbrook, N.Y.) and man down goals from Martin and Stacie Tripp (Glen Cove, N.Y.).
Martin and Perla pushed the Dolphins in front 11-6 with back-to-back tallies to open the second half as the Mount scored five of the first seven goals in the stanza to take a 14-8 lead with 17:02 left in regulation time. Kean would cut into the lead with four of the next five markers and would go onto run off four straight goals later in the period to even the score at 16-16 with 4:39 left to play.
After Erin Woerner (Kings Park, N.Y.) pushed the Mount back in front by a goal with 4:08 left in the half, Kean answered with a goal from Amanda South at the 1:47 mark of the second to knot the score. The Dolphins got the eventual game winning tally from Jessie Mitchell when she scored with the Dolphins up a man with 43 ticks left.
The overall statistics in the game proved as tight as the final score on Wednesday. Kean held a 35-34 edge in shots in the game and also a 37-31 advantage in groundballs. The Dolphins took the edge in draw controls 19-17.
Martin led all scorers with seven points on Wednesday with her six goals and a helper. Mitchell finished the contest with four goals and an assist for five points and Perla netted four goals for the Mount. Kim Freaso (Setauket, N.Y.) led the Dolphins with six groundballs to go along with four draw controls and a caused turnover. Mitchell finished with five groundballs, a pair of draw controls and two caused turnovers.
Jackie Horn (Setauket, N.Y.) played the full 60:00 in the cage for the Dolphins and made 10 saves. She stopped seven shots in the second half alone to preserve the win and also added a groundball in the contest. Kean used a pair of goalies in the contest with Gina Petrizzo and Sabrina Vargas each making four stops.
Kean had two players record five points in the game with Stephanie Cirino scoring five times and South netting four goals and adding an assist. Cirino led all players in the game with eight groundballs and also won four draw controls.
The win improves Mount Saint Vincent's overall record to 8-4 on the season and its Skyline mark to 4-2. The Dolphins will be back in action Thursday night when they travel to #5 TCNJ. Opening draw with the Lions is set for 7:00 p.m.
