Women’s Lacrosse Drops Second Straight, Falls At Western Connecticut

was one of three Mount Saint Vincent players to register multiple goals, netting four for the Dolphins.

After the Colonials jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead, Mount Saint Vincent answered with three straight tallies with Lauren Perla (Holbrook, N.Y.), Martin and Erin Woerner (Kings Park, N.Y.) finding the back of the cage to push the Mount in front 3-1 with 23:22 left in the first half.

Following the Woerner goal, Western Connecticut ran off seven straight markers, before Martin closed out the scoring with 4:39 remaining before the half. Kara Kruczkiewicz netted a pair of goals over that span for the Colonials, who took an 8-4 lead into the intermission.

The two teams would trade goals for much of the second half, before Western Connecticut strung together three straight tallies, including two from Ashley Caruso to pull in front 14-7 with just under 6:00 left in regulation time.

Woerner's second goal of the game with 3:53 left in the half would get the Mount to within six goals, but Jessica Majeski would salt the game away for the home standing Colonials with a goal at the 1:39 mark.

Martin's four goals give her 27 on the season to lead the team. She has also added 15 assists for a team best 42 points through the first eight games of the campaign. She also won a draw control and went 2-3 on free-position opportunities on Thursday.

Perla and Woerner each finished with a pair of goals for the Dolphins in the contest. Perla also finished with three groundballs, a draw control and three caused turnovers. Jessie Mitchell (Suffern, N.Y.) posted a team-high four draw controls on Thursday and Jenna McColgan (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and Kristen LeGeyt (Stony Point, N.Y.) finished with three groundballs each. McColgan also picked up her ninth assist of the season for the Mount.

Kruczkiewicz led the Western Connecticut offense with five goals in the game, while Caruso netted three for the Colonials. Kruczkiewicz also picked up three groundballs, won a pair of draw controls and caused four turnovers. Kaitlyn Arconti came off the bench and finished with a pair of assists.

Jackie Horn (Setauket, N.Y.) finished the game with 16 saves for the Dolphins, making eight stops in each half. Her counterpart Jodi Rocco stopped 21 shots for Western Connecticut and made 16 saves in the opening period.

For the game, Mount Saint Vincent held the edge in shots 40-36, while groundballs were even at 15 and turnovers were even at 10 for each side. Western Connecticut finished the game with a 13-11 edge in draw controls. Mount Saint Vincent was 4-11 in free-position attempts and the Colonials finished 2-9.

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 5-3 overall on the season. The Dolphins will open Skyline Conference play on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Ramapo for their third straight road game. Opening draw with the Roadrunners is set for 1:00 p.m.
