Dolphins’ Winning Streak Snapped With Road Loss At Farmingdale St.

Farmingdale St. The Dolphins had five players record multiple goal games with sophomore Jessie Mitchell (Suffern, N.Y.) leading the way with three tallies.

Mount Saint Vincent's Katie Tucci (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) opened the scoring in the contest on a free position shot just 1:47 into the first half. From there Farmingdale St. ran off five straight goals to open a four goal advantage.

The Dolphins sliced their deficit to 5-3 when Mitchell and Erin Woerner (Kings Park, N.Y.) scored back-to-back goals with 17:06 and 15:46 left in the half. The Rams would retake control of the contest and open a 9-5 advantage at the half after scoring four of the final six goals before the intermission.

The Dolphins would tally seven goals in the second half, but could not hold down the Rams over the final 30:00. After Tucci again opened the scoring for the Dolphins on an assist from Mitchell in the second half, the Rams would score four of the next five markers in the game.

Lauren Perla (Holbrook, N.Y.) would tally for the Mount with 18:17 left in regulation time, but Farmingdale St. would again string together a run of six of the next seven goals. Mount Saint Vincent would score the final three markers of the game over the final 8:48, but the Rams outscored the Dolphins 10-7 in the second half to earn the final seven goal decision.

Mitchell finished the game with three goals and a helper, while Kelly Martin (Stony Point, N.Y.) Woerner, Tucci and Perla all finished with a pair of tallies. Stacie Tripp (Glen Cove, N.Y.) added the other goal for the Dolphins and Jenna McColgan (Lynbrook, N.Y.) finished with an assist.

Jackie Horn (Setauket, N.Y.) started in goal and played 53:00 in the contest making seven saves. Karen Laurent (East Elmhurst, N.Y.) saw action in the other seven-plus minutes and made a single stop for the Mount. Emalee Ciampo made nine saves and picked up a pair of groundballs for the Rams.

Horn led the way with four groundballs and Perla picked up three for the Dolphins. Mitchell and Tucci each recorded five draw controls in the contest and Mitchell posted five caused turnovers.

Justin Rothar had a big day for the Rams finishing with 12 points on nine goals and three assists. Theresa Rokee finished with three makers and Jennifer Jung posted a pair of goals and three helpers. Rothar also finished the day with a pair of free position goals and four caused turnovers.

Overall in the game, Farmingdale St. outshot the Mount 34-22 and picked up 24 groundballs to 16 for the Dolphins. Farmingdale St. also held the edge in draw controls 19-14, while the Mount was successful on four of its six free position attempts.

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 4-1 overall on the season and to 0-1 in the Skyline Conference. Next up for the Dolphins is a home league contest with Sage on Saturday afternoon. Opening draw with the Gators at Purchase is set for 4:00 p.m.
