Lauren Perla (Holbrook, NY) posting career-highs in goals with four and points with five.
The two teams went into halftime tied at eight, with the first 30:00 seeing each team go on scoring stretches. Kean opened the scoring with a goal from Stephanie Cirino at 28:32, before Perla scored her first of the night at 26:47 to tie the score at 1-1. Kean answered with three of then next four goals, before Mount Saint Vincent reeled off four straight to take a 6-4 lead with 13:42 remaining in the first half.
Kean answered the Mount run with three goals of its own to take a one goal lead at 7-6 with just under four and a half minutes left in the period. Mount Saint Vincent jumped back in front on goals from Cyndi Adams (Mechanicsville, MD) and Perla to retake a one goal lead at 8-7 with 2:26 left in the half. The Cougars would tie the score with 18 ticks left in the period when Rosalia Romeo found the back of the cage to knot the score at eight at the half.
The second half was as tightly contested as the first on Wednesday. Kean used a three goal run to open the half to take an 11-8 lead. Cristin Califf opened the half with a goal and Amanda South added a pair of goals to put the Cougars out front for good. The Dolphins and Cougars would exchange goals the remainder of the half until Perla and Jessie Mitchell (Suffern, NY) scored back-to-back inside of the final 6:00 to bring the Mount to within the 14-13 final.
Perla led the way with her four goals and an assist on the night, while Mitchell finished the night with three markers. Katie Tucci (Baldwinsville, NY) and Adams contributed a pair of goals each for the Mount.
Mitchell led the team with six groundballs and also finished the contest with two draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers. Alexis Alessi (Rockville Centre, NY) led the Dolphins with five draw controls on the night and three caused turnovers and classmate and fellow defender Cynthia Osorio (Oceanside, NY) posted a team-high four caused turnovers to go along with three groundballs.
Jackie Horn (Setauket, NY) played the full game in goal for the Dolphins and made nine saves, with five of those coming in the second half. Her counterpart from Kean, Ashlie Berghold, also made nine stops for the Cougars.
Kean was led on the night by Cirino who finished with four goals and an assist. Romeo added three markers and two helpers for the Cougars, while South also added three goals. Califf and Alli Green chipped in with two markers.
Overall in the game, Mount Saint Vincent out shot Kean 28-27 and also held the advantage in groundballs 18-17. Draw controls in the contest were even at 14 apiece and turnovers in the game went 24-20 against the Cougars. Kean was successful on two of its six free position shots in the game, while Mount Saint Vincent went 1-3 in those opportunities.
The loss closes out Mount Saint Vincent's 2008 campaign with a 7-9 overall record.
