Women’s Lacrosse Falls At Montclair State In Regular Season Finale

The Red Hawks posted the first two goals of the game, before Mount Saint Vincent scored three straight to take a one goal lead with 19:15 left in the first half. Martin scored two of the three in that stretch with Katie Tucci (Baldwinsville, NY) scoring her first of two on the night at the 19:15 mark.

Montclair State would answer with five straight goals, before Cyndi Adams (Mechanicsville, MD) and Jessie Mitchell (Suffern, NY) tallied inside the last 30 seconds of the half to bring the Mount to within two goals at the half.

The Dolphins would fall behind by three goals, at 8-5, with 28:56 left in regulation before scoring two to get back to within one goal. Adams and Erin Woerner (Kings Park, NY) scored back-to-back goals to cut into the Red Hawk lead.

Following Woerner's marker, the Red Hawks would pull away and claim the Skyline Conference Regular Season Title by scoring eight of the final 11 goals of the contest. They will enter the Skyline Conference Tournament as the top seed and will take on Farmingdale State on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.

Martin, Adams and Tucci all had multiple goal games, with Martin tallying three times and Adams and Tucci each scoring a pair of goals. Lauren Perla (Holbrook, NY) recorded an assist and a draw control for the Dolphins.

Kim Freaso (Setauket, NY) led the team with four groundballs on the night, while Erin Davies (Islip, NY) and Woerner each picked up two. Mitchell and Alexis Alessi (Rockville Centre, NY) each finished the night with three draw controls to lead the team. Cynthia Osorio (Oceanside, NY), Tucci and Woerner each posted a pair of caused turnovers to lead the Mount on Monday.

Jackie Horn (Setauket, NY) played the full 60:00 in the cage and made six saves. She made four stops in the second half alone for the Mount and also recorded a pair of groundballs on the night. Montclair keeper Talia Katz made five saves and scooped three groundballs for the Red Hawks.

Montclair was led by Bethany Blaine who scored seven times in the game and added an assist. Marykate DiBenedetto finished the night with a pair of goals and a helper in the winning effort.

Overall in the contest, Montclair State held the edge in shots 36-17 and in groundballs 20-16. The Red Hawks also finished the night with 17 draw controls against 11 for the Mount. The Dolphins went 2-5 in free position opportunities, while the Red Hawks converted 3-6. Turnovers in the game were 24-18 against Mount Saint Vincent.

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 7-8 overall on the season and to 3-2 in the Skyline Conference. The third seeded Dolphins will travel to second seeded Kean University on Wednesday night for their Skyline Conference Semifinal contest with the Cougars. The game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
