(Danbury, CT) - Seven different Dolphins found the back of the net on Thursday afternoon as the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Lacrosse team improved to 5-6 for the 2007 season (after a 1-4 start) with a 16-10 win over Western Connecticut State during a game played at Western Connecticut. goal scorers, three Dolphins enjoyed hat-tricks as junior Chanel Comis (Durham, NC/Cardinal Gibbons) tied her season high with four goals, and freshmen Kelly Martin (North Rockland, NY/North Rockland HS) and Katie Tucci (Baldwinsville, NY/Baldwinsville HS) scored three times apiece.

But the win was not easy as the Mount had to overcome an upstart Western Connecticut team. After Mount Saint Vincent opened the scoring at 24:43 when sophomore Megan Fleri (Islip, NY/Islip HS) scored off a beautiful feed from senior Beth Clark (Silver Spring, MD/St. John's Prep), Western Connecticut scored three of the next five goals over an eight-minute span to take a 5-4 lead with 16:59 to play in the first half. However, from that point, Mount Saint Vincent controlled play for 19 minutes to close the first half and open the second half as the Mount outscored the Colonials 8-1 during the span to make it 11-5. The highlight was the fastest consecutive goals in the history of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Lacrosse as a Michelle Yarger (Chantilly, VA/Chantilly HS) goal at 28:35 of the second half made it 9-5. Off of the ensuing draw, junior Maureen Payne (Bloomfield Hills, MI/Marian) scooped up the loose ball, ran straight down the middle, and found freshman Khrystina Jackson (West Islip, NY/West Islip HS) who converted the feed for a 10-5 advantage. The two goals came 13 second apart.

Western Connecticut finally ended the run at with a goal at 25:44. but from that point, the game would get no closer as each team scored five more times to close the game.

Overall, Mount Saint Vincent outshot Western Connecticut, 40-23 and gobbled up 31 ground balls compared to WestConn's 19. The Dolphins also forced 21 Colonial turn-overs and held an opponent to 10 goals or less for the ninth time this season..

Aside from the high-scoring trio, Fleri and Jackson scored two goals apiece, and Payne had a goal and two assists. Martin also added an assist for the Mount to give her a four-point day.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, April 21 when they host 2006 Skyline Conference Champion Montclair State at 12:00 p.m. The game will be played at Westchester Community College in Valhalla, New York.
