Women’s Lacrosse Hangs On For 13-11 Win Over Farmingdale State

and Cyndi Adams (Mechanicsville, MD) led the Mount to victory, each scoring four goals and adding an assist.

The Mount jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead as, Katie Tucci (Baldwinsville, NY), Adams and Martin all scored inside the first five minutes of play. Farmingdale would respond with two goals of its own and would score five of the final seven goals of the opening half to knot the score at 5-5 after the first 30:00.

Farmingdale took its first lead of the game at the 28:35 mark of the second half on a goal from Theresa Rokee. Following an Adams marker, the Rams jumped on top by a goal again after Jaclyn Messina scored an unassisted goal to push the Rams in front 7-6.

Following the Messina tally, the Dolphins scored four straight goals, including a pair from Lauren Perla (Holbrook, NY) to open up a lead they would not relinquish. Farmingdale would put the pressure on by scoring three times in the final 10:30, but goals from Martin and Tucci sealed the victory for Mount Saint Vincent.

Jackie Horn (Setauket, NY) played the full 60:00 in the cage and made nine saves, including six in the second half. Horn also picked up a team-high eight groundballs in the win. Her counterpart from Farmingdale, Janine Forman, made 11 saves and kept the Rams in the contest with seven stops in the first half.

Martin scooped five groundballs in the game and also finished with three draw controls. Jessie Mitchell (Suffern, NY) finished with a goal, an assist and eight draw controls for the Dolphins. Cynthia Osorio (Oceanside, NY) and Tucci each caused three turnovers in the winning effort.

Farmingdale was led by Jennifer Jung, who finished with four goals and an assist. Rokee finished with three markers, while Justine Rothar chipped in with two goals.

Overall in the game, Mount Saint Vincent out shot Farmingdale 35-23 and also held the edge in groundballs at 30-23. Mount Saint Vincent won 17 draw controls to Farmingdale's nine and turnovers in the contest went 25-21 against the Rams. Farmingdale State went 1-6 in free position opportunities, while the Dolphins converted just two of their seven chances.

The win is Mount Saint Vincent's third straight and moves them over the .500 mark for the first time this season. At 7-6 overall and 3-0 in the Skyline Conference, the Dolphins will square-off with Kean on Saturday afternoon. The contest is scheduled for 2:00 at the Fieldston School.
