Final Statistics
Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team concluded its trip to Fort Lauderdale with an 89-57 win over Curry College in the 10th Cruzin' Classic. Senior Courtney Heesemann (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) recorded her 31st career double-double in the contest, netting 21
points and pulling down a game-high 13 rebounds.
After shooting just 26.2-percent from the floor on Saturday against Millikin, Mount Saint Vincent responded by converting 47.9-percent of its field goal opportunities, including six three-pointers in the tilt on Sunday. Heesemann finished 9-11 overall from the floor and a perfect 3-3 from the charity stripe.
The Dolphins never trailed in the game on Sunday morning and jumped out to a double digit lead early in the first period. A Karissa Koerner (Bay Shore, N.Y.) three point field goal with 14:56 left in the frame pushed the Dolphins' lead to 10, as the Mount opened the contest scoring 17 of the first 21 points.
Mount Saint Vincent would hold a double digit lead the rest of the way and would not let Curry any closer then 11 points the rest of the contest. Mount Saint Vincent shot a blistering 58.8-percent from the floor in the opening stanza and took a 50-29 lead into the intermission.
The Dolphins largest lead of the afternoon was the final 32 point decision and closed the game with a 12-0 run over the final 6:45 to earn the split at the Cruzin' Classic.
The Mount was clicking at both ends of the floor Sunday, as it forced 27 Curry turnovers and converted those into 29 points. The Dolphins dominated in nearly every category as they outscored the Colonels in the paint 48-26 and then 23-9 in second chance opportunities. Mount Saint Vincent finished with a 48-37 edge on the glass.
Sophomore Jen Mocanu (Middletown, N.J.) led all scorers in the game with 22 points to go along with four rebounds and four steals. Heesemann also had a strong all-around game, chipping in with two assists, two steals and two blocks to go along with her double-double.
Senior Jill Brady (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) rounded out a trio of Dolphins in double-figures with 11 points and also added four rebounds and two assists. Lauren Percodani (Staten Island, N.Y.) joined Mocanu with four steals and also handed out eight assists for the Dolphins.
Curry shot just 30.3-percent from the floor in the contest and went just 4-20 from long distance. Hailey Rafferty and Joneiha Veiga led the Curry offensive attack with 14 points each.
The win moves Mount Saint Vincent back above .500 on the season at 5-4. The Dolphins will be off until January 5 when they host Sage in just their second home game of the season. Tip-off with the Gators at the Sharp Center is set for 7:00 p.m.
