Women’s Basketball Wins Third Straight, Topples Bard

was the only Mount player to score in double-figures, posting 13 points in the win.

The Dolphins never trailed in the contest and jumped out to a 15-4 lead on a triple from Percodani with 13:18 remaining in the opening period. Bard would slice into the lead with an 11-2 run, capped by a pair of Caitlin Dullea free-throws to get the Raptors to within two points at 17-15 with just over 8:00 before the intermission.

The Raptors would keep the lead under 10 points until the 2:40 mark of the period when freshman Jen Mocanu (Middletown, N.J.) converted a fast break lay-up to push the Mount in front 27-17. The Dolphins took an 18 point, 35-17, into the break after scoring the final 14 points of the half over the last 4:26 of the period.

Mount Saint Vincent held Bard to just 20.7-percent (6-29) shooting from the field in the first half and forced 10 Raptor turnovers. Percodani scored all 13 of her points in the opening 20:00 on perfect shooting in the half. She went 5-5 from the floor overall, 1-1 from long range and 2-2 from the free-throw line.

The Dolphins expanded the lead to 21 points early in the second half when Karissa Koerner (Bay Shore, N.Y.) buried her first of two three pointers. The Dolphins held a lead as large as 28 points twice in the frame and did not let Bard any closer than 19 points in the second half.

Overall, Mount Saint Vincent held Bard to 28.8-percent shooting (19-66) from the field and just 6.7-percent shooting (1-15) from three-point range. Tuesday marked the second straight game and fifth time overall that the Mount defense has held a team under 30-percent shooting from the field. The defense also forced 19 turnovers and translated those into 22 points.

The Mount held a convincing advantage on the glass Tuesday night, leading the category 59-41 overall and 27-16 on the offensive end. Freshman Kara McNish (Hawthorne, N.J.) led the Dolphins and matched her career-high with eight rebounds in the contest.

Percodani chipped in seven rebounds, three steals and an assist in the contest, while McNish and Mocanu each finished with eight points. Mocanu swiped a game-high four steals for the Mount, as six players posted at least two thefts.

Bard (3-14, 1-10 Skyline) was lead by Latiqia Williams who finished with a double-double, posting game-highs in points with 18 and rebounds with 16. Williams also collected three steals for the Raptors.

The win moves Mount Saint Vincent to 10-8 overall on the season and to 9-2 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Dolphins is a home date with Skyline front runner Mount Saint Mary on January 31. The Blue Knights will enter the contest unbeaten in league play at 10-0. Tip-off at Hayes Gymnasium is set for 1:00 p.m.
