77-72 win at Old Westbury. She was one of three players in double figures for the Dolphins as
Lauren Percodani (Staten Island, N.Y.) and
Courtney Heesemann (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) each finished with 14 points.
The Dolphins trailed for just 55 seconds in the contest as they rebounded from a loss to Mount Saint Mary last Thursday. Mocanu opened the scoring for the Mount with her first three pointer just 22 ticks into the contest. She then gave the Mount the lead back for good with 17:25 left in the first half on a fast break bucket.
Mount Saint Vincent expanded its lead to as many as 12 points in the first frame on a Ciara Clarke (Warwick, N.Y.) lay in just under nine minutes into the contest. The Dolphins did not let the Panthers any closer then five points the remainder of the half and a Kerry O'Connor (Bethpage, N.Y.) jumper in the final seconds of the period sent the Dolphins to the locker room up 35-25 after twenty minutes of play.
The Dolphins shot 40.5-percent in the opening stanza and made four triples compared to zero (0-8) for Old Westbury. The Panthers shot just under 27-percent in the first half, but remained close by converting nine free throws to just one for the Mount in the period. Mocanu led all scorers in the half with 17 points on 7-12 shooting.
Old Westbury opened the half with a quick 6-0 run to cut its deficit to four points, but the Dolphins responded with 17 of the next 25 points to open a game-high 13 point advantage. The Panthers would eventually whittle the Mount lead back down to four, but it was in the final seconds and a free throw from Percodani with nine ticks left secured the road win for the Dolphins.
Mocanu set career marks in points and three point field goals made in the contest and also contributed five rebounds and five assists. She helped on the defensive side with a pair of steals and a blocked shot.
Perocdani finished the night in double figures for the first time this season with her 14 points. She also had a strong all-around game with six rebounds and a game-high seven assists. She also swiped three steals and matched her career-high with two blocks. Heesemann recorded her third double-double of the season with her 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Overall in the contest Mount Saint Vincent shot 44.8-percnt from the floor and held the home standing Panthers to just 35.3-percent and just 15.8-percent from long range. Krystina Agard led the Old Westbury attack with a game-high 34 points, while Brittany Jones pulled down a game-high 17 rebounds. Agard converted 10 of the Panthers' 24 field goals.
The win pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 4-2 overall on the season and to 2-1 in Skyline Conference contests. The Dolphins will step out of league play for a contest at Montclair St. on December 15. Tip-off with the New Jersey Athletic Conference opponent is set for 6:00 p.m.
