Dolphins’ Three Game Winning Streak Snapped At Farmingdale State

three game winning streak ended with a 76-66 loss at Farmingdale St. Heesemann now stands just six points shy of 1,000 in her career.

Heesemann finished the contest 10-15 from the field and 3-6 from the free-throw line on her way to the game-high point total. Of her 13 total rebounds, eight came on the offensive end, as the Mount dominated the offensive glass 27-9.

The lead changed hands three times early on in the contest, before the Rams took the lead for good at 11-10 with 11:06 left in the first half on a Shemique Hooks jumper. Hooks finished the half with 17 points, as Farmingdale St. finished the half shooting 48.4-percent.

The Rams (8-4, 6-1 Skyline) never trailed in the second half and pushed the lead to as many as 15 points early in the frame. The Dolphins closed the deficit to five points with just over 5:00 left in regulation on a three-point play from Heesemann. The Rams responded with a 10-2 spurt on their way to the final 10 point decision.

Joining Heesemann in double-figures on Saturday were Karissa Koerner (Bay Shore, NY) with 12 points and Jen Mocanu (Middletown, NJ) with 11. Mocanu finished the contest with nine rebounds and Koerner canned three triples and pulled down six boards.

Hooks posted 20 points to lead the Rams, while Kimberly Blakney finished the game with a double-double, totaling 14 points and 13 assists. The Rams assisted on 16 of their 25 field goals in the tilt.

Farmingdale St. finished 43.1-percent from the floor, while the Mount shot just over 35.-ercent from the floor. Mount Saint Vincent did hold a commanding edge on the boards at 56-31, but the Dolphins turned the ball over 27 times which led to a 26-9 edge for Farmingdale St. in points off of turnovers.

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 7-8 overall on the season and to 6-2 in the Skyline Conference. The Dolphins will look to get back on track on January 22 when they host Old Westbury. Tip-off at Hayes Gymnasium is slated for 8:00 p.m.
