Brian Lavelle returned to CMSV as the lead assistant under head coach Phil Stern in the 2019-20 season. Coach Lavelle helped the program reach a 14-11 record and a Skyline Conference semi-final appearance.Â
Coach Lavelle's original stint in Riverdale came back in 2015, where he served as an assistant coach, where his duties included breaking down game film, implementing practice plans and game planning, among other duties. Coach Lavelle was named interim head coach in January 2017 and led the team to a 7-3 record to close out the regular season.Â
Coach Lavelle has an extensive coaching career, including stops at the Division I and Division II levels, as well as the high school and AAU ranks. He worked as an administrative assistant coach at both Iona College and Manhattan College for five combined years and was also an assistant coach at Dowling College during the 2013-14 season.Â
Coach Lavelle served as the head coach at Preston High School for six seasons, where he was awarded the Daily News' Coach of the Year (1998). He also worked as the head coach of the Lady Knicks (AAU) from 1992-2013, as well as working the Kilkenny College (Ireland) camp from 2003-2014.Â
