Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent scored five unanswered goals Friday afternoon, shutting out The City College of New York 5-0. The Dolphins improved to 2-2-1 overall with the victory, as they look to build momentum into its upcoming slate of games.
UMSV got things going early on the offensive end. Junior Kerrigyn Lynam opened the scoring in the sixth minute before Michelle Zuniga doubled the lead in the just 11 minutes later. The Dolphins carried the 2-0 advantage into halftime after outshooting the Beavers eight to just two.
The Dolphins continued to control play after the break. Senior defender Maddie Halford scored her first goal of the season in the 51st minute off an assist from Lynam, while senior Brittany Boyle junior Caroline Gomes capped off the team's scoring efforts in the latter portion of the half. Freshman Jazlene Saldana picked up her third assist of the year on Boyle's strike.
Mount Saint Vincent dominated the final statistics, finishing with a 26-3 advantage in shots and a 6-0 edge in corner kicks. Kaitlyn Grady, Ella De Kruyf and Alexandra Laguna combined for the shutout, with Grady making one save during the opening half.
The Dolphins return to conference action Wednesday on the road against Purchase College.
