Dolphins Finish Regular Season With One Goal Loss To Golden Eagles

Patchogue, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent dropped a tight 6-5 decision to St. Joseph's University Long Island on the road, battling until the final minutes but coming up just short.

It was the regular season finale for the Dolphins, who finished with a 3-8 record, including going 3-5 in conference play.

The Dolphins fell behind early after a first quarter goal, but responded in the second behind Nevaeh Martin, who scored twice to give UMSV a 2-1 lead heading into halftime. They kept the momentum going in the third as Isabelle Gurley found the back of the net to extend the lead to 3-1.

SJLI answered with a strong push late in the third, tying the game at 3-3, before the teams traded goals in a back-and-forth fourth quarter. Gurley struck again on a free-position opportunity and later added her third goal of the game, finishing with a team-high three goals. Martin added two goals, while Ella Meberg contributed two assists in the effort.

Despite holding a late lead, the Dolphins were undone by a three-goal run from St. Joseph's in the fourth quarter, including the eventual game-winner with just over eight minutes remaining. UMSV had chances down the stretch but couldn't find the equalizer.

In addition to Martin, Gurley and Meberg, AB Burnett also added a point with an assist. Makenna Reekie made 14 saves across 20 shots on goal, while also leading the team in both ground balls (seven) and caused turnovers (three).

With the regular season in the rearview mirror, the Dolphins await playoff seeding in the coming days.
