Dolphins Find Offensive Success But Fall Short Against Old Westbury

Old Westbury, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent dropped both ends of a high-scoring Skyline doubleheader against Old Westbury, falling 8-3 in the opener and 13-12 in a back-and-forth game two.

The Dolphins fell to 4-4 in conference play this season.

In game one, the Dolphins found themselves trailing early after Old Westbury plated runs in each of the first two innings. UMSV answered in the third on an RBI single from Pablo Austin, before tying the game in the fourth behind a two-run home run from Zach Turko.

Old Westbury responded themselves with a big fifth inning and continued to add on, pulling away late to secure the 8-3 win.

Game two turned into an offensive battle, with both teams trading momentum over the nine inning affair. The Dolphins got on the board early with an RBI single from John Anthony Spanoudakis, but Old Westbury answered with a four-run third inning. UMSV then responded in the fourth, as Evan Dutzer launched a two-run home run and Stephen Marinez followed with a two-run single to give the Dolphins a 5-4 lead.

Old Westbury quickly swung the momentum back with a five-run fourth inning and continued to add insurance late. The Dolphins stayed within striking distance, highlighted by a bases-clearing double from Spanoudakis in the sixth to cut the deficit to one. The Dolphins mounted a late rally in the ninth, as Spanoudakis delivered again with a two-RBI double, but the comeback fell just short in a 13-12 loss.

Spanoudakis totaled six hits and six RBI across both games, while Turko and Marinez each finding success at the plate on the day as well.

The Dolphins are set to challenge John Jay College in a double header on Tuesday.
