New Paltz, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent went back on the road on Saturday with a tough non-conference matchup against SUNY New Paltz. The Hawks proved to be too much to overcome for the Dolphins, with the home team winning 13-4. UMSV is now 3-6 on the season.
The Dolphins defense was a bright spot, despite the final goal count. UMSV limited New Paltz to just three goals in the second quarter and two in the fourth, with sophomore goalkeeper
Max Mills making 14 saves.
Brandon Mestres once again was the leader in caused turnovers with two, while fellow defenders
Jakob Mahon,
Walker Moore and
Jackson Taylor had one apiece. Mestres also had a team-best six ground balls.
Mattias Remes continued the hot start to his freshman year when he broke the Dolphins scoring drought with their first strike in the first to make it a 4-1 contest. The Hawks would go on a five goal run before UMSV got back on the board, with
Thaddeus Harris securing his third goal of the season. Before it was all said and done, both
Thomas Vallely and
Nigel Walker went on to score as well.
The Dolphins are back on Marillac Field this Wednesday for a night cap against Dean.
