Dolphins Open Skyline Play With Double Header Loss To Maritine

Throggs Neck, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent kicked off Skyline play in their return from Florida with a double header against Maritime College. The Dolphins dropped both ends of the conference showdown, by the scores of 16-8 and 13-2. The end results put UMSV at 1-10 overall this season.

The Dolphins fell into a major hole in game one, with the Privateers plating eight runs in the third inning and then seven more in the sixth. They did, however, do their best to create a comeback. Between the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings, UMSV scored eight runs of their own. Will Granata added to his program leading home run record with another blast, giving him 20 for his career. Granata drove in a pair of runs after going 2-for-4. Kyle Brindisi and John Anthony Spanoudakis each recorded RBI doubles, while Pablo Austin singled home a run as well.

The highlight of the Dolphins offense came off the bat of freshman Michael Akalski. The first year infielder belted a three run home run to left field, the first of his collegiate career. Sophomore Jacob Wentzel was a bright spot out of the bullpen, pitching in 1.1 scoreless frames.

UMSV's bats were slowed again in game two. Akalski, however, continued to show off his bat skills with his second home run in as many games. Spanoudakis broke open the scoring drought with an RBI single of his own, pushing his batting average to .344 on the season. Joseph Santos helped settle things down in relief, recording three strikeouts without allowing a hit or run in the final 3.1 innings of the game.

UMSV looks to get back on track on Monday in yet another Skyline matchup, this time against Yeshiva University.
