Teaneck, NJ - The University of Mount Saint Vincent rebounded nicely on Monday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader against Yeshiva University in dominant victories of 14–0 and 17–2. The Dolphins featured an explosive offensive performances in both contests, while also seeing their pitchers impress on the mound.
UMSV is now 3-10 overall, but evened their Skyline record to 2-2.
The Dolphins set the tone early in game one and never looked back, scoring four runs in the first inning and continuing to add on throughout the game. Stephen Marinez jump started the offense with a two-RBI double, while Michael Akalski continued his hot stretch by following with a two-run double of his own as part of a big opening frame. UMSV continued to build its lead inning by inning, with Zach Turko delivering an RBI triple and Andrew Farina adding a two-RBI double. John Anthony Spanoudakis capped the scoring with an RBI triple, while Kyle Brindisi and Tyler Margolis each contributed RBI as the Dolphins totaled 14 runs in a complete offensive effort.
Nicholas Rodriguez was on the hill for game one and shut down the Maccabees with a five inning, five strikeout, two hit performance. Stephen Neglia pitched in the final two frames and struck out four and allowed just two hits.
The Dolphins carried that momentum into game two, once again producing early offense and pulling away with multiple big innings. They broke the game open with a four-run second inning and continued to extend its lead with steady production across the middle frames. Marinez, Brindisi and Will Granata continued to pace the offense, while contributions throughout the lineup helped the Dolphins post 17 runs. Seven different Dolphins posted extra base hits, while Marinez, Akalski, Turko, Farina, Brindisi, Granata, Pablo Austin and Jayson Nigro all drove in runs.
Shawn Ryan went the distance in game two, striking out nine Yeshiva batters without allowing an earned run.
The Dolphins are set to take on non-conference foes later this week. They'll first challenge Ramapo College on Wednesday before turning their attention to NJCU on Thursday.
