Myrtle Beach, SC - The University of Mount Saint Vincent participated in three games in Myrtle Beach on Tuesday afternoon, as they looked to stack wins against non-conference competition. The Dolphins, however, struggled, dropping each of their contests to Centenary University (9-1), the University of Scranton (10-5) and Arcadia University (8-7).
Tuesday's finals dropped UMSV to 3-4 on the year.
The offense struggled against the Cyclones, but freshman
Zoe Fields was a standout performer. She led the Dolphins with a pair of hits and scored the lone run of the contest. Junior
Paige Goerman picked up the RBI with a third inning single, while
Emma Capozucca,
Simone Caruso, Miralba Sandez and
Liana Vivanz also recorded hits.
Different faces led UMSV's comeback attempt against Scranton.
Samantha Aviles,
Carmen Henderson and
Keira Stroud haad two hits apiece, including an RBI double from Aviles which broke the Dolphins scoring drought to make it a 7-2 game in the fourth. Sandez hit a deep double to left center to plate Aviles, cutting into the deficit even further. Aviles would drive in another two runs in the bottom half of the sixth to bring the score to 7-5, but that was as close as the Dolphins would get. Senior
Savannah Autobee came in relief and impressed, allowing just two runs (one earned) in 6.1 innings.
UMSV and Arcadia traded leads all game long, with Aviles, Capozucca and Goerman combining for all seven RBI. Goerman led the charge with three, in addition to two hits and two walks. Capozucca, Caruso and Henderson tied Goerman for the team lead in hits.
The Dolphins will look to find their winning ways tomorrow in matchups against FDU-Florham and Principia.
