Davenport, FL - The University of Mount Saint Vincent was back in action down in Florida, this time taking on Rutgers Newark and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The Dolphins entered the win column for the first time in 2026 and did so in impressive fashion, plating 19 runs for an 11th inning victory. Stevens Point emerged victorious in game two of the afternoon by the score of 11-1.
UMSV now sits at 1-6 on the season.
The Dolphins fell behind early as Rutgers-Newark plated three runs in the first and added four more in the third to take a 7–1 lead. The Dolphins got on the board in the second when Kyle Brindisi came around to score, and later added another run in the third on an RBI double from Will Granata to cut into the deficit.
The Dolphins made their first major push in the sixth inning, erupting for four runs. Pablo Austin delivered a two-run single, while Carter Niles followed with an RBI triple. Tyler Margolis added an RBI single to trim the deficit to 11–6.
After Rutgers-Newark extended its lead, UMSV responded with its biggest inning of the game in the eighth, exploding for eight runs. Brindisi delivered a bases-clearing triple as part of a four-RBI performance, while Niles and Joe Reid each drove in key runs to power the rally and bring the Dolphins all the way back into the game.
They continued to battle in the ninth, tying the game at 17–17 behind contributions from Austin, Brindisi and Granata to force extra innings. After Rutgers-Newark regained a one-run lead in the 11th, the Dolphins answered one final time as Stephen Marinez delivered a game-tying RBI triple before Austin lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring the winning run and sealing the comeback victory.
Austin, Brindisi, Granata and Andrew Farina had three hits each, with Austin and Brindisi tying for the lead with four RBI apiece.
Michael Varriale and Stephen Neglia impressed in relief, and Gavin Weinstock picked up his first win as a Dolphin after allowing just one run on two hits with two strikeouts in 2.1 innings.
UMSV closes out their spring break trip with a contest against UMass Boston on Thursday.
