Dolphins Open Myrtle Beach Trip With Split Against Cedar Crest, SUNY Poly

Myrtle Beach, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent landed in Myrtle Beach on Friday evening and kicked things off with a double header against Cedar Crest College and SUNY Poly. The Dolphins dropped the first game of Spring Break in a tough, 5-4 loss to Cedar Crest before rebounding with a walk off victory over SUNY Poly by the score of 6-4.

UMSV improved to 3-1 to kick off their 2026 season.

Freshman Carmen Henderson was the star for the Dolphins offensively in game one. The California native went a perfect 4-for-4 at the dish, including a triple, while also swiping one bag and scoring one run. Junior Kayla O'Connor led the charge with two RBI, cutting the deficit to 4-3 which eventually set up sophomore Leanez Estrada to tie things up off an error.

Gracie Laukkanen was on the mound to kick off game one and struck out three while allowing two earned runs in four innings. Lily Walsh took the mound for the first time in her collegiate career and allowed just one run (unearned) in a pair of frames.

Senior Savannah Autobee took the ball in game two and went the distance for the Dolphins. The Pueblo, Colorado standout allowed three earned runs on six hits while striking out three in seven innings.

Seniors Emma Capozucca and Simone Caruso were standout performers at the plate in game two. The duo each collected two hits and were the driving forces behind the win, as Capozucca's seventh inning single tied the game, and Caruso's line drive to right field plated two runs soon after, putting her team on top for good. Henderson had another strong contest, which included two RBI, and fellow freshman outfielder Zoe Fields added a hit and a run scored of her own.

The Dolphins will turn right back around tomorrow and challenge Centenary University and The College of New Jersey in the second leg of the team's trip.
