Salem, MA - The University of Mount Saint Vincent dropped a road contest to Salem State, 19–8, on Saturday afternoon. The Dolphins battled throughout but were unable to slow Salem State's offensive surge as the hosts used strong second and third quarters to pull away.
Defenseman Brandon Mestres led the charge with two goals on four shots while also scooping three ground balls. Chai Dunlap was the Dolphins' leader in points, collecting three on one goal and two assists, with his 12 assists leading the team through four games.
Jaylin Johnson, Isaac Parsons, Mattias Remes, Nigel Walker and Thomas Vallely each scored goals as well. Walker and Sam Hall joined Dunlap with assists.
Defensively, Jackson Taylor, Marquis Gardner and Donte Thornhill caused one turnover apiece. Freshman Cal Denier had an impressive performance, winning 15 of 18 face-off chances while leading the charge with nine ground balls. The Dolphins as a whole went 22-for-31 on the face-off dot. Sophomore keeper Max Mills made 11 saves on the 30 shots that reached net.
The Dolphins got on the board in the opening quarter but trailed 4–1 after the first period. UMSV added another goal in the second quarter, though Salem State continued to build its lead, sending the game into halftime trailing 9–2.
The Dolphins showed more offensive rhythm coming out of the break, scoring twice in the third quater.
