Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent earned a hard-fought 9–8 victory over SUNY Delhi on Wednesday afternoon on Marillac Field, using a balanced offensive effort, suffocating defense and a late fourth-quarter goal to secure the win.
The Dolphins are now 3-4 overall, with all victories coming in Riverdale.
UMSV struck first in the opening quarter on a goal from Isaac Parsons, but the Broncos responded with three straight scores to take a 3–1 lead after the first 15 minutes. The Dolphins turned the momentum in the second quarter, putting together a strong three-goal stretch. Parsons added his second of the game, while Chai Dunlap and Mattias Remes each found the back of the net to tie the game at 4–4 heading into halftime.
Mount Saint Vincent carried that energy into the third quarter, once again outscoring SUNY Delhi 3–1. Parsons completed his hat trick, while Dunlap and Remes added their second goals of the afternoon to give the Dolphins a 7–5 advantage entering the final period.
The fourth quarter proved to be tightly contested, as SUNY Delhi battled back to even the score late. After the game was tied at 8–8, Sam Hall delivered the decisive moment, scoring the go-ahead goal with just over five minutes remaining to lift the Dolphins to the one-goal victory.
Offensively, Parsons and Remes the way with three goals apiece.Hall registered two assists before his big time score, while Parsons and Nigel Walker added assists in the win as well. Cal Denier and Alfred Lamptey helped generate the offense at the faceoff circle. Denier won eight of 13 attempts, while Lamptey gained possesions for his team on 50% of his chances.
The defense, too, was a major reason behind the win, with the unit allowing just two goals between the second and third quarters. Brandon Mestres led the charge with four caused turnovers, while Jakob Mahon and Walker Moore helped thwart the Broncos defense with one caused turnovers apiece. Defensive midfielders Harrison Chapman, Marquis Garder and Donte Thornhill were major contributors both in their own zone and in transition.
In goal, Max Mills recorded nine saves to help secure the win as the Dolphins held off a late push to close out the game.
The team now turns their attention to SUNY New Paltz, who they challenge this weekend on the road.
