Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent was on their home floor once again, looking to return to the win column after a tough Sharp Center tri-match on Saturday. The Dolphins will have to wait another day to secure their next victory, as they fell to New Jersey City University in straight sets (9-25, 17-25, 23-25).Â
Raeden Nieves, who earned Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week honors on Monday, once again was the Dolphins go-to hitter. The freshman led the team offensively with nine kills and added a team-high five digs, showing strong all-around play. Jose Dominguez contributed six kills and chipped in three aces, standing out as a key attacker and server while Terrence Short added three kills of his own.Â
On the defensive front, Yestro Luciano Jr. paced the team with two solo blocks and a pair of assists, putting together yet another strong presence at the net. Matthew Barrancos ran the offense with 11 assists, a Dolphins high.Â
The end result wasn't what the Dolphins played for, but the young team continues to come together and impressive in spurts of action. UMSV will regroup and focus on Lehman College, who make their way to Sharp on Thursday.Â
