Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent competed in their first tri-match of the season, taking on two incredibly talented teams in John Jay College and Elmira College. The end result didn't go the Dolphins' way, but the young team continued to impress on the floor in the early goings of the season.Â
Against John Jay, Raeden Nieves led the Dolphins with 16 kills, anchoring the offense from start to finish. Christian Ferrer was dynamic running the offense with 18 assists, while Roel Lucero (six digs) and Matthew Barrancos (five digs) anchored the back row with consistent defensive coverage. Terrence Short added energy with contributions in both scoring and serve-receive, and Tyler Hanna made his impact felt at the net with his blocking presence.
In the afternoon match versus Elmira College, Jose Dominguez stood out with 10 kills, leading UMSV's attack and consistently challenging the Elmira defense. Barrancos also contributed with five kills, while Nieves added five more of his own. On the service line, both Ferrer (20 assists) and Barrancos provided scoring pressure with a pair of aces each, and Yestro Luciano Jr. tallied 3 total blocks, pacing the net defense.
The Dolphins will look to return to the win column on Monday in a showdown with NJCU.Â
