Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent battled hard in a competitive Skyline contest but ultimately came up short, falling 77-65 inside the Sharp Center against Sarah Lawrence. After trailing by 11 in the first quarter, the Dolphins found some rhythm in the second, outscoring Sarah Lawrence behind energetic play from their top scorers, but couldn't sustain that surge in the fourth when the visitors pulled away.
Michaela Ligon was the standout scorer for UMSV, finishing with 15 points on efficient shooting, going five of nine from the field. The junior also contributed on the boards and at the free throw line.
Grace Kennedy was a force inside, recording a double digit rebound performance with 11 boards to go with he\r 14 points, showcasing her activity on the glass all night.
Ashley Marrocco added a strong all-around effort, scoring 10 points of her own while helping keep UMSV within striking distance.
Angelina Escobinas came off the bench and provided a spark with 14 points, and
Julia Angeles stepped up in the passing game with a team-high six assists while pulling down nine rebounds.
Grace Giacinto chipped in six points, bringing energy in limited action.
The Dolphins had one of their best quarters in the season in the second when they outscored the Gryphons 24-13 while shooting 42% from the floor and causing three turnovers. Escobinas was the star of the quarter, scoring nine of her points to give the Dolphins a two point lead with halftime on the horizon.
UMSV is off to Newburgh this weekend, where they'll look to return to the win column against Mount Saint Mary.
