Dolphins Return To Winning Ways Over CCNY

Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent snapped their recent losing skid on Tuesday when the City College of New York came to Riverdale for a rare January non-conference showdown. The Dolphins featured a balanced offensive attack, which led to a major defeat over the Bears by the score of 65-37.

The victory is UMSV's third this season.

Grace Kennedy reprised her role as the team's top scorer. The East Fishkill native was one of two Dolphins to score in double digits, registering 14 points on seven-of-12 shooting to go along with three assists and three rebounds. Michaela Ligon followed suit, scoring 10 points of her own with a team-best eight boards.

13 different UMSV student-athletes scored at least one basket. Ashley Marrocco and Caily Salon added six points each while Julia Angeles, Angelina Escobinas, Grace Giacinto and Jadamarie Henry had four apiece. Escobinas also starred in the passing game with seven assists while Olivia Dutzer recorded a career-best seven rebounds. Escobinas and Marrocco also led the charge with four steals each.

After a stagnant first half offensively, the Dolphins found success over the final two quarters. The team shot 49% from the floor and went on an 8-0 run to close out the third. Henry had her way in the paint over that span, as both of her points in the contest came courtesy of layups over that span. The team's defense found equal success in the fourth, as they shut down the Beavers and allowed zero points in the final 4:10 of action.

The Dolphins will look to keep success on their side this coming weekend in a home battle against Purchase.
