Yonkers, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's impressive start to their 2025 season continued on Saturday, this time in Skyline Conference action.
The Dolphins took a short road trip to Yonkers to take on Sarah Lawrence College for another tough, physical battle, something that has become a theme between both programs in recent seasons. UMSV would get the better of the matchup, with the 3-1 victory giving the team six wins in seven games, with the other decision resulting in a tie with the United States Merchant Marine Academy.Â
The Dolphins did their best to take advantage of the Gryphons hard play, with a foul in the box setting up junior midfielder Sebastian Ciurlizza with a penalty shot attempt. The reigning Second Team All-Conference selection converted the attempt, as his second goal of the year gave his team the edge just 15 minutes into play.Â
The offense didn't stop there. Transfer sophomore
Jose Gonzalez scored his first goal since joining the team from Maritime, with defenders
Trevor Pegg and
Anthony Rochester doing a tremendous job moving the ball to the midfielder. Both members of the back line recorded assists on the goal.Â
The Dolphins defense held strong over the first 45 minutes of action, as the unit allowed just three total shots, none of which reached net.Â
The second half, however, saw the Gryphons pick up the pace offensively. They went on to increase their shot attempts by 7, with goalkeeper
Samuel Reine recording all five of his saves over that span. Sarah Lawrence would get on the board with six minutes left in regulation, but
Javier Trujillo, last season's Skyline Rookie of the Year, would negate the point with a goal of his own four minutes later.Â
The win sets UMSV up in impressive fashion as conference play rolls on. They'll head out to Brooklyn to challenge St. Joseph's University on Wednesday.Â
