Old Westbury, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent was on the road on Wednesday, challenging SUNY Old Westbury in a mid-week Skyline showdown. Success on both ends of the field put the Dolphins in a strong position to walk away winners, and they did just that, defeating the Panthers in impressive fashion by the score of 14-1.
The victory improved UMSV's conference record to 2-1 on the season, good for the fourth spot in the standings.
Dolphins goalkeeper
Makenna Reekie had a dominant day in net. The Tyngsboro, Massachusetts native shined in the win, recording 10 saves while allowing just one goal in what was arguably her best game of the season. UMSV's defense did their part in front of Reekie, as the unit allowed just 12 shots off the sticks of Old Westbury.
The offense was equally as impressive.
Macey Forg continued her strong final season with the program, as she would add six goals and three assists to her season stat line. Forg did a little bit of everything for the Dolphins on Wednesday, as she also collected six draw controls, two caused turnovers and a ground ball.
Ella Meberg nearly matched Forg's dominance with four goals and three assists of her own. Freshman
Isabelle Gurley, who had two goals and an assist as well, tied for a team best two caused turnovers while finishing second in draw controls (five) and ground balls (seven) while
Brooke Frierson added nine ground balls of her own.
Laziza Azimova added a score for the Dolphins while
AB Burnett and
Sofia Marcos combined for three helpers.
The Dolphins will now set their sights on the United States Merchant Marine Academy, who they'll challenge on April 12.
