Dolphins Sweep Bears, Improve To .500 Against Skyline

Yaphank, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent finally took the field against St. Joseph's University Brooklyn after a weekend rain out, with the rescheduled double header taking place out on Long Island on Wednesday. The Dolphins didn't let the schedule change deter them, as they'd sweep the head to head matchup against the Bears by the scores of 12-7 and 10-6, bringing their Skyline record to 5-5 and their overall record to 14-8.

UMSV would fall into an early hole out of the gates, as Brooklyn plated three runs in the bottom half of their first inning. The Dolphins offense, however, would respond in the third inning, as they would take advantage of sloppy defense with a run scored due to an error after a ball was put in play by Will Granata. A wild throw would bring Jason Albert home before JT Jimenez tied things up with a timely sacrifice fly. Dom Porto would push the Dolphins ahead in the top of the fifth with his first home run of the 2025 season, giving his team a 4-3 edge.

Porto would add another RBI to the stat line in the following inning, but the Bears would go on a run themselves, eventually taking a 7-6 lead in the bottom of the sixth. UMSV's offense would once again answer in the seventh, as Porto, Joey DiNorcia, Conor Martin and Zach Turko each drove in runs.

Alex Alvarez rebounded from a shaky start and struck out 10 batters in just five innings. Mike Iocco would register the victory after going 1.2 innings of one run, three strikeout baseball.

Game two went on to mirror the first. It would be the Bears who once again jumped out to a lead, this time by five runs in the bottom of the third. UMSV would get on the board just one half inning later, with Martin hitting a two run double, followed by productive outs that produced RBI from both Turko and John Anthony Spanoudakis

The back and forth continued into the following inning. The Bears would extend their lead to two runs in the fifth before the Dolphins would answer back. This time, Tyler Margolis kicked things off with a bases loaded walk, which was followed by a sacrifice fly from Granata to tie the game. Jimenez would give UMSV their first lead of the game with a two RBI single to left center field, with Granata capping things off in the top of the seventh with a two-run single of his own.

Justin Dutzer and Shawn Ryan impressed out of the bullpen over the final three innings. Dutzer allowed just one base runner while Ryan collected four punch outs over the final two innings.

The Dolphins will now set their sights on St. Joseph's University Long Island, who they take on this coming Saturday,
