Throggs Neck, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent competed in a battle of the Bronx on Sunday, taking on Skyline foe Maritime College in a conference double header. The Dolphins saw fantastic pitching and timely hitting in both games, as they went on to sweep the Mariners and extends their win streak to five games.Â
Junior RHP Luke Buyes was rewarded with the win in game one after allowing just one run on six hits to go along with nine strikeouts. Junior RHP Michael Iocco got the save for the Dolphins, his third of the year. It was a defensive battle, with one run being scored total in six innings between both teams. Maritime could not hold on to their one run lead to close it out, with a big-time three run home run in the last inning of the game from graduate student JT Jimenez. Senior Jason Albert, junior Will Granata and sophomore Zach Turko led the Dolphins in hits with two apiece, propelling the team to a 3-1 win.
In game two, the Dolphins picked up right where they left off in game one, hitting exactly eight hits again and scoring an additional run run. The final score was 4-1. Junior Jake Bland picked up the victory after a one hit, seven inning performance. Iocco closed out the contest for yet another save to his season stat line.Â
Junior Joshua McCormick set the tone with an RBI double to left center field, with senior Dominick Porto scoring. The Dolphins would add another run in the 7th inning, with McCormick hitting his second run scoring double of the day. McCormick finished his impressive outing with a two-run home run, accounting for all four runs scored while going three-for-five at the plate.Â
Be on the lookout for the Dolphins as they look to extend their win streak to seven games in a doubleheader matchup against Saint Joseph Long Island on Monday.Â
