Softball Swept By Farmingdale On Long Island

Farmingdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent may have been the host team on Sunday but had to travel out to Long Island to take on Farmingdale State College in their home stadium in the team's second Skyline double header of the season. The Dolphins departed back to Riverdale with two losses added to their record, dropping both games to the Rams by the scored of 6-4 and 9-4. UMSV now sits at 7-12 overall with more conference competition on the horizon.

It took the Dolphins a bit to get going in game one, getting their first base runner of the ballgame in the third inning - but they didn't go down without a fight. Despite trailing by six runs entering the top half of the seventh, the Dolphins would make a strong run to a victory. Sophomore Paige Goerman would kick things off with a single to right field and was followed by Emma Capozucca, who also singled after hitting one back to the pitcher. Kendra Rodriguez would walk just two batters later, loading the bases with just one out. Aaliyah Dejesus would hit an opposite field single to drive home Goerman, with freshman Samantha Aviles advancing Capozucca on a ground out. Sabrina Colon would collect two RBI with a single to right field, but the comeback would stop just one batter later.

UMSV looked to carry the momentum into game two. They did just that when Dejesus scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at one in the bottom of the first before the Dolphins put up two more runs off the bat of Ireyshka Lebron, who collected an RBI in both the first and third innings. From there, however, it would be all Farmingdale. The Rams would score six runs in the top of the seventh alone, securing them the double header sweep.

Aviles would add another RBI to her impressive year one stat line while Dejesus went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate.

The Dolphins will look to right the ship on Wednesday when they head back out east to challenge St. Joseph's University Long Island.
