Bronx, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent found their way back into the win column on Thursday, when they challenged Baruch College in a rare, late season non-conference double header. Game one, which was won by the Dolphins, featured an impressive comeback that was capped off by a game-winning sacrifice fly by sophomore Pauge Goerman.
The pitching duel in game two saw the Dolphins fall by the score of 2-1, bringing their record to 12-17.
Baruch jumped out to an early lead, plating four runs across the first three innings. It wasn't until the bottom half of the third when UMSV would finally strike. It was then when standout freshman
Samantha Aviles singled to right center, driving home
Kayla O'Connor. Aviles would add her second RBI in the fifth, making it a 4-2 ballgame.
The Dolphins entered the final inning behind, but an impressive rally would result in the victory. O'Connor and
Sierra Romero kicked things off with back-to-back singles, with Romero and
Liana Vivanz, who pinch ran for O'Connor, stealing second and third during the next at-bat.
Kendra Rodriguez would then bring home Romero while advancing Vivanz to third.
Aaliyah Dejesus, who recorded her 125 collegiate hit earlier in the game, tied the contest with an RBI single to right field. This would eventually lead to Goerman knocking home the game winning run.
The Dolphins only had three hits in game two, but that was highlighted by a long Miralba Sandez home run, her third of the year.
Gracie Laukkanen once again impressed on the mound with eight strikeouts and zero earned runs in a complete game effort.
UMSV returns to conference play on Sunday, challenging Sarah Lawrence College as their continue their playoff push.
