Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent saw their struggles from the weekend roll into Tuesday when they challenged St. Joseph's University Long Island in yet another Skyline showdown. The Golden Eagles overmatched the Dolphins throughout the contest, walking away with a 19-5 record.
Despite the end result, the Dolphins' conference record of 2-3 keeps them in the playoff hunt with just three games left on their regular season slate.
UMSV went toe-to-toe with SJLI in the early goings of the first quarter. They would respond to an opening Golden Eagles goal when senior
Macey Forg scored her first goal of the evening to knot the game at one. Less than two minutes later it was
Isabelle Gurley's turn, as the freshman midfielder put her team on top by the score of 2-1 with just over six minutes remaining in the quarter.
The Golden Eagles would then turn around and three straight goals to close out the first, putting them on top for good.
Despite the end result, there were positives for the program. Forg put up two goals in the contest, while both Gurley and
Ella Meberg recorded a goal and an assist each.
AB Burnett also shined on Tuesday evening; not only did she score a goal herself, but also impressed with five caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Sofia Marcos had three caused turnovers of her own while goaltender
Makenna Reekie reached that same total, in addition to 15 saves to go along with seven ground balls.
UMSV looks to remain in playoff contention as the week plays out. They'll host Maritime College in their final regular season game on Marillac this coming Friday.
